Leeds Foods Waste Cafe Buys Space in Armley
Last week Leeds-based The Real Junk Food Company purchased its first premises in Armley, Leeds.
The Company has used more than 20 tonnes of surplus food waste from grocers, supermarkets and cafes to feed over 10,000 people through pop-up dining events all over the UK, but the idea originally sprang up in Leeds. This demonstrates that Leeds is at the forefront of eco-dining, with The Real Junk Food Company‘s first cafe opening soon in Armley. The cafe will be feeding people using otherwise wasted food.
The Armley Cafe will be a welcome feature to Leeds after recent statistics show that £23 billion is wasted through food waste alone. Each year 18 tonnes of food is thrown away – we even throw away more food than we do food packaging.
